STROMBERG 97 FITTINGS

Stromberg Carburetor is proud to announce its all-new Superseat brass hose fitting—the first of its type with the correct seat angle for Stromberg 97 carburetors.
Hose fittings previously sold for Stromberg carbs were usually 37 degree hydraulics fittings, but the Stromberg inlet has an 18 degree seat. As Stromberg owner Clive Prew explains, “We weren’t the first to realize this, but we could be the first to do something about it. The only way incorrect fittings work is if you tighten them to death and wreck both parts.”

As with every new Stromberg product, the SuperSeat fitting was developed using the company’s ‘just the same, but better than ever’ approach, so it echoes the traditional parts while improving them in every area.

Designed and manufactured exclusively by Stromberg, it boasts many small but important design features aimed to ensure superior style and performance:

  • A beautiful smooth hose end (not barbed) just like vintage fittings from the 1950’s.
  • A 9/16 AF hex size – bigger than the modern 1/2 inch fittings. It costs more to make, but looks better because it matches the OD of the hose and inlet fitting.
  • The hex area and thread length are kept short for good looks – no ugly threads showing.
  • Works with original needle & seat inlet fittings and the Genuine Stromberg S-jet.
  • Works with 5/16 and 3/8 ID fuel hose.
  • Best of all, it has the correct angle seat!

The new Stromberg 97 SuperSeat Hose Fitting. Competitively priced at just $7.50 and available now from your friendly local Genuine Stromberg carburetor dealer.

BEWARE THE “SOME GUY’S” REBUILD

BEWARE OF THE “SOME GUY’S” REBUILD

Here’s yet another horror story that just goes to show that you can’t assume anything. A buddy of mine who runs an outstanding engine shop (great reputation for quality work, and he knows what he’s doing) recently prepped a pair of heads for a customer’s 454 bogblock Chevy that was dropped into a 1970 Baldwin-Motion Camaro clone. The GM Performance aluminum heads were brought in (loose) to my friend’s shop for an overhaul…disassemble, check for cracks, check the decks and resurface, re-do guides and seats, new valves, new springs, etc. You get the drift.

SUPERFLOW INTROS NEW TEST BENCH

SUPERFLOW

SUPERFLOW INTROS NEW TEST BENCH

A new, professional, computerized flowbench, designed for engineers who develop everything from intake tracts, exhaust media to highperformance, two-cycle and four-cycle engines is now available through SuperFlow Technologies Group.

The computer-controlled SF-1020-SB (SuperBench) — SuperFlow’s most advanced flowbench is designed for demanding engineers and professional racers. The SF-1020-SB measures and records air flow at OEM engineering accuracy … faster than any other flowbench on the market. It easily switches to intake or exhaust flow direction. (Intake to test intake valves, air cleaners and carburetors; exhaust to test exhaust valves, exhaust systems and two-cycle cylinders).

“New generation” electronics provides accurate, easy-to-use, digital airflow measurement and control; takes pressure and temperature measurements; handles all corrections; and displays digital read-outs for corrected flow, test pressure and velocity probe in both U.S. and metric units. WindowsTM-based software automatically sends flow data through its serial port to a PC. (This allows you to view flow data graphically, record, store, print, and also retrieve old tests to overlay and compare with current ones.)

The SF-1020-SB automatically regulates test pressure based on keypad input. Testing is generally performed at 50″ to 65″ (130–165 cm) of water test pressure. (However the SF-1020-SB is capable of providing fast, accurate, repeatable results at any test pressure between 5″ and 70″).

A unique variable flow orifice adjusts flow range between 25–1000 cfm based on electronic input to fit valve size or lift. (You can run all your tests with a single setting or change the range to obtain extended accuracy).

Throughout the range, flow can be read within 0.25%. The variable flow range increases the resolution of flow measurement as compared to a single-range system. Changes of 0.5% are readily detectable.

VOODOO TO THE RESCUE

301 break-in lube

VOODOO TO THE RESCUE

Over the past few decades motor oils have been reformulated to meet the specific needs of late model engines and the always tightening Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) restrictions on emissions. This is great for late model engines with hydraulic roller lifters, but very bad for anyone with an early model, flat tappet equipped engine.

“The problem area for flat tappet engines is that modern motor oils no longer contain adequate levels of manganese, phosphorous and zinc,” states Steve Slavik, Lunati technician. “These minerals are necessary for proper lifter rotation and without them you greatly increase the chance of a lifter seizing up and sliding along the camshaft. This scenario will cause non-repairable damage to the camshaft and lifter faces.”

To resolve this issue, Lunati® has formulated a flat tappet Voodoo® Break-In Lubricant that easily blends with modern, non-synthetic motor oils to restore them to flat tappet compatibility. By simply pouring in Lunati’s part #301 lubricant, the necessary levels of phosphorus, zinc and manganese are added back to the oil, ensuring proper lifter rotation. Voodoo Break-In Lubricant is available in a 12oz. easy-to-pour bottle, and should be used in all engine applications when a new camshaft and lifter set is installed.

BEKAERT EXPANDS U.S. COATING

Bekaert Diamond-Like Coatings, worldwide leader in performance engine coating technologies, has significantly improved its customer service operation in the US by investing in its office infrastructure at the Research Triangle Park (RTP) in Raleigh-Durham, North-Carolina. The company has merged its offices and coating facilities into one single building, creating a one-stop coating environment dedicated solely to Bekaert DLC coatings. The move builds on the company’s investment in machinery last year, when it installed the new Dymon Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating machine in response to increased demand for DLC coatings for high-performance engine components.
